After what has be an incredible journey I finally say goodbye to the Dominion Theatre after 5 and half years, 3 years of which I have served as Theatre Manager.

It’s has been a very happy and rewarding time that has seen new ownership in the form of the fantastic Nederlander Family, the 10th anniversary of We Will Rock You (with a memorable 22 hours shift and a shake of hands with Robert De Niro) to the launch of our fantastic champagne bar.

While I leave with many memories and stories I leave most importantly with the lifelong friendship of all the staff at the Dominion Theatre.

Particular thanks must go to Mr Jerry Katzman for all his support and guidance, David Pearson, Queen Theatrical Productions, Hillsong Church, the true fans of WWRY and of course the best Front of House Team in the West End, I salute you.

I shall miss you all and I thank each and every one of you for an incredible time.

Mark Satchell, Theatre Manager

On Wednesday 5th December, some of the Dominion team were lucky enough to be guests of our owners, the Nederlander Family at the press night for The Bodyguard at the Adelphi Theatre.

The Adelphi is part owned by the Nederlander Organization, and part by Really Useful (we call them our half sister!), plus the Nederlanders are producers of the Bodyguard so this was a big night for them indeed! Over from New York were Jimmy Nederlander Jr, Charlene Nederlander and Nick Scandalios (Executive Vice President of the Nederlander Organization).

We were really well looked after at the Adelphi by Theatre Manager Conia Martin and her team of hospitality staff in the Vivian Ellis Bar who kept the champagne and canapés flowing. As for the show itself, it looks sure to be a hit – and judging by the reaction of the Americans in the audience, it will not be long before a Broadway opening is announced. Not sure we’ll get an invite to that one…

On Saturday 8th September the Dominion was visited by a Paralympian!

Australian Silver Medallist Paralympian Louise Ellery came to see We Will Rock You on Saturday night.

What should you know about Louise Ellery? Louise is an Australian Paralympic Athlete, who first represented Australia at the Athens 2004 Paralympics and went on to break the world number record for seated shot put in 2005. She was named the ACT Athletics Outstanding Athlete in AWD three years in a row as well as the Athletics Australia Female athlete with a Disability of the year 2009-2010. She competed in the 2008 Beijing Games gaining sixth place, however in the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games, Louise really showed off her athletic ability by winning gold! Since 2010 she has continued to work hard and won bronze in the shot put at the 2011 IPC World Championships where she broke the Australian record.

Louise recently competed in the London 2012 Paralympic games, where she won the Silver medal for F32 class Shot put. So, you can imagine how excited Mark Satchell our Theatre Manager and the FOH team were when she came to see We Will Rock You on Saturday night with her parents.

It was an honour to have Louise Ellery and her Silver medal here at the Dominion!

At the end of August our fabulous Operations Manager, Liz Tullett went on maternity leave and we couldn’t let her go without throwing her a baby shower and generally spoiling her with presents and flowers! The baby shower took place in our new Freddie Mercury suite, which we decorated with pink and blue balloons; and as Liz has craved cheese throughout her pregnancy, all nibbles were cheese themed! All the staff from both the Dominion and WWRY attended and thanks to Jodana Weekley, our Events Co-Ordinator, the shower was full of fun games like ‘guess how many jelly babies are in the jar’ and my favourite ‘pin the nappy on the baby.’ We wish Liz the best of luck with the rest of her pregnancy and we can’t wait to see the baby!
